Stuart Keir to step down as AFC Liverpool Manager

AFC Liverpool manager, Stuart Keir, has decided to step down from his role at the end of the current season. Stuart joined AFC Liverpool in June 2017 as assistant manager. He was appointed as co-manager of the Reds in January 2018, and took sole control of the team following the sudden passing of Ben Williams last November.

Stuart made the following statement:

“It’s with great difficulty that I have informed the board, players, and management team of my decision to step down from my position as AFC Liverpool manager after the Avro game this Saturday.

My decision is based on my family commitments at this moment in time. I have recently had a little boy and I have already got a 5 year old daughter, and feel at this moment I can’t commit to the role as manager at the required level moving forward into next season.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the board for giving me the role alongside Ben Williams initially on a joint management basis. It’s been a difficult last 5 months for all concerned with the club and we miss Ben greatly.

I would like to thank the rest of the management team who have been unbelievable in supporting me in this role, and the players who are the nicest bunch of lads that you could work with. They want to learn and develop, and I think this season is the beginning of their journey and you will see the best of them in the coming seasons.

Last but certainly not least, I want to thank the fans who have supported me and the team throughout. Your fantastic support and singing during games really does have an impact on the team and I know the players and staff appreciate it a lot. I’d also like to reserve a special mention for Don Steele who sadly passed away just after Christmas. He was always so positive with the lads and he will be missed.

I wish the club all the best moving forward  YNWA”

AFC Liverpool chairman Chris Stirrup issued the following response on behalf of the Board:

“The Board of AFC Liverpool has reluctantly agreed to accept the resignation of first team manager Stuart Keir who will be leaving the club after Saturday’s game with Avro.

Stuart first informed the Board of his intention to step down in February for family reasons and we fully appreciate that.

Since taking sole charge of the first team, Stuart has made a positive difference to the club, improving the style of football and honing a squad that has proved able to compete with the best teams in the First Division North as results have shown.

The Board would like to thank Stuart for his hard work during his time at AFC Liverpool and we wish him every success in the future.”

A statement on Stuart’s successor will be made in due course.
