Kevin Edgar Interview

Striker Kevin Edgar gave us some time this week ahead of the weekend’s big game against Bootle FC to chat about life in the North West Counties, his development at AFC Liverpool and more.

You’ve taken a step up this season to play at a higher level, have you found anything particularly challenging about playing in the North West Counties Premier Division?

I would say that I haven’t found it too challenging generally. I feel like the big change is around fitness more than anything else and it’s a physical league but I definitely don’t mind the physicality, it’s actually something I really look forward to actually.

How do you think your game has developed since signing for AFC Liverpool over the summer?

I feel I’ve definitely improved as a player. Chris and Stu have worked hard with me in training, especially on my movement and with what they want from me and I feel that in a short space of time I’m really seeing the benefits of it hopefully I can continue in my current form.

Your double against Darwen last weekend makes you the clubs top scorer this season and puts you on 7 in all competitions – do you have a favourite goal so far?

It’s always nice to score a goal personally so to get 2 against Darwin was great and it capped off a really good team performance from the lads. My favourite goal would have to be my first goal as an AFC player at Irlam. It’s become my trademark free kick now and I remember being frustrated with not scoring in my first few games so to get off the mark like that was nice.

After a bit of time out following injury back in October, how did it feel not being able to play?

It’s never nice to get an injury and to have to miss a few weeks when there are important games to be played especially with the situation we’re in at the minute but I feel that we have quality lads in the squad who can fill in when one of us is out.

Finally Kev, you’ve thanked the fans in recent weeks through twitter for their support, how important has their backing been for you and the lads?

The fans have been brilliant over recent weeks given that our performances haven’t been where they should but they really have been special. I think they know what we can do as we have shown before and as we showed against Darwen and in recent weeks the fans are always loud and really get us up for it. All the lads appreciate the support they give us week in week out we just hope we can give them a lot more to cheer about in the games coming up.
