AFC Liverpool 4-2 AFC Darwen

AFC Liverpool finally returned to winning ways with a commanding performance at the Marine Travel Arena over AFC Darwen.
Kevin Edgar opened the scoring on 23 minutes with a driving run into the opposition area, before unleashing a powerful strike beyond Stephen James into the Darwen net.
Just 3 minutes later Darwen equalised following a goalmouth scramble, and the ball fell to Lee Turner in space wide right of goal and he drilled it past Jack Cookson.
Edgar nearly created a repeat of his goal from the kick off, but his shot rebounded off the post, creating more problems for the visitors for the remainder of the half, and it remained 1-1 at the break.
The Reds continued where they left off, with the better of the chances, whilst dealing with Darwen’s high-pressing game. Joe Whittington and Edgar combined well with several wayward attempts, but with 15 minutes to go it was Danny Boden who got the breakthrough for the Reds, who was there to tap in as James couldn’t hold on to a free kick.
Edgar doubled his tally on 81 minutes with a superb curled free kick, before Boden got his 2nd of the game, receiving a through-ball in acres of space, and keeping his composure to fire under the advancing keeper.
A late consolation goal came from a well worked move by AFC Darwen with two minutes to go, ending with Sidi Fofana’s strike, but Chris Stammers’ Reds saw the game out for their deserved victory, as they look to climb back up the Hallmark Security Premier Division.
