AFC Liverpool 4-2 Squires Gate

It took only 46 seconds for AFC Liverpool to take the lead as they welcomed Squires Gate to the Marine Travel Arena.

Emini Adegbenro received the ball shortly after kick off and knocked it into space splitting the Gate defence. He raced forward to the edge of the area and sent the ball over the advancing keeper Joseph Griffiths into the net.

Ben Seear equalised for the visitors on 12 minutes finishing off a neat move at the back post from Charlie Waters’ cross, and the score remained 1-1 at half time after an even 45 minutes.

Squires Gate took the lead on 57 minutes as David Rossall whipped in a cross to find Seydou Bamba unmarked and he sent a powerful header past Dom Garner in the Reds goal.

AFC Liverpool went into a higher gear from that point, with Adegbenro testing the Gate defence. He was brought down in the penalty area on 62 minutes, and Mikey White stepped up to fire the spot kick home for an equaliser.

Three minutes later Adegbenro got his second goal of the game, as White sent a perfect lofted ball over the forward’s shoulder, and he shook off his markers to send the ball past Griffiths with aplomb.

AFC continued to dominate with Freddie Champion teeing up substitute Oscar Billington who sent his shot just wide, but the Reds sealed the points shortly afterwards in the 70th minute. Jack Leamey dribbled past two players and drilled a low shot inside the near post before any visiting player could react.

Adegbenro was brought down again but this time the referee waved away protests as Champion hit the side netting, and Leamey tested Griffiths again with a dangerous free kick. The Reds played with pomp for the remaining minutes and took their unbeaten run to four matches.
