Youth Teams Development Update

AFC FlagIain Baxter, AFC Liverpool’s Director of Football, gives us an update on the club’s youth team’s future plans.

‘Following a meeting this week of representatives from our youth teams, Phase One of the process has been completed and Phase Two will now involve examination of training, match play, and elements of coach support.

‘We now have an Under 19 team operating in the Wirral which we anticipate will be joined by an Under 16 team in time for next season. Onside Academy, with whom we have an ongoing link, have an Under 18 AFC Liverpool team and these three teams will provide support to our First Team structure in the absence of a dedicated reserve team at this time.

‘Whilst concentrating on First Team support, we also now have two Under 11 teams who play in the Hightown Junior League and they form the foundation of the youth set up which will grow incrementally on a top down and bottom up basis as the existing new structure beds down and provides scope for further expansion.

‘Having met the people who will be running our teams, I am impressed with their dedication in relation to the development of young players and their desire that the new youth set up delivers the longterm objectives of AFC Liverpool in the quest for Charter Standard Community achievement. I look forward to working with them in the next stages of this evolving plan which, although challenging, will, I feel, be hugely rewarding for our football club in the future.’
