Youth & Ladies Weekend Round Up

ShirtThe Saturday Under 15’s maintained their unbeaten record in the Ste Helens & Rainhill JFL with a 2-0 win over Town Green with both goals coming from Conor. Manager Joe Wright commented, ‘the lads didn’t play great today in a horrible game on a pitch that should be used to grow potatoes.‘ It’s a result that keeps the lads in second in the table, fourteen points behind leaders Evolution, though they do have four games in hand.

The Under 16’s maintained their eight point lead at the top of the Craven Minor JFL thanks to a 4-1 win against Southport Trinity.

The Under 17’s lost 0-2 to Manor Youth in the Grove Youth Division of the Wallasey & District Sunday Football League, a result which leaves the lads three points off the top in fifth and moved their opponents into third, level on points with leaders Upton Town. Howard Northover commented that, ‘After putting in a determined effort which saw the first half goalless, the game ended with a 0-2 defeat to Manor Youth JFC. There’s no point bemoaning refereeing decisions but with their first goal coming from a player who was two yards offside and the other coming when our keeper was being held down, then it’s always hard to accept.’

The Sunday Under 21’s went down 2-3 to Farmers in the Liverpool County Premier League Under 21 Division, a result which leaves them third bottom. Archstanton supplies a match report:
A similar game to the previous meeting with Farmers. A poor first half with defensive errors and two goals in a four minute spell around the quarter hour and a third on the half hour left AFC a mountain to climb. A goal was nearly pulled back after 35 minutes when an Adam Jones drive was tipped onto the post. The rebound went across and hit the other post and then a stretching volley from four yards out with an open goal again hit the post. The second half saw a much improved performance and a Jones swivel shot into the corner gave us a chance. On the hour a great strike from 25 yards by Alex Jones hit the post. Five minutes later good work by Sean Carlson was rewarded with a fine finish to put AFC right back in it.
Farmers then woke up again and Alex Jones cleared a goal bound effort off the line. AFC continued to press and Ryan Moran’s injury time shot was cleared off the line which was the last action of an entertaining game.

AFC Liverpool Ladies were in cup action as they took on Padiham in the North West Regional Cup but despite a valiant effort, they went out of the competition. The game was tied at 1-1 after ninety minutes but the visitors went on to score twice in extra time to run out 3-1 winners.
