Youth & Ladies Weekend Round Up

ShirtThe Saturday Under 15’s played just their second game of 2014 but the recent postponements didn’t affect them as they beat Town Green 6-0 with the goals coming from Sam, Joe, Gerard, Jacko, Luke and Nial. It’s a result that keeps the lads in second place in the table, ahead of Blackbrook on goal difference and fourteen points behind leaders Evolution, though they do have four games in hand.

With no league action on Sunday, the Under 15’s entered two teams in an Adidas Samba Cup six-a-side competition at Play Football Liverpool North and went on to not only win the tournament but finish second as well. Well done lads.

The Under 16’s drew 3-3 against Birkdale in the Craven Minor JFL and with second placed Hudson Celtic not playing, it’s a result that extends the lads’ lead at the top of the table to eight points.

The Sunday Under 21’s were in cup action as they took on Woolton in the Bill Hannon Sunday Youth Cup Second Round. Archstanton supplies the match report:

AFC Liverpool took the lead on ten minutes when a free kick from halfway was met with a looping header that dropped over the keeper. The rest of the half was similar to yesterday’s first team game in which the Reds had plenty of possession and chances but could find no further goals. Then after twenty five minutes a superb strike from twenty yards flew into the top corner giving Woolton an undeserved equaliser.

The second half again saw AFC dominate possession but they did not create many chances. Woolton though took advantage of their chances to add two goals. The first was disputed after Declan Morgan saved a deflected shot, only for the Woolton forward to slot home amidst strong claims for offside while the second was the result of poor marking leaving the forward to slot home unchallenged.

A disappointing result, but the second leg awaits in Woolton on 9th March.

AFC Liverpool Ladies played their first game for a month and came away with a 3-2 win against Mossley Hill Reserves. Two goals from Aimee and a penalty from Wendy secured the victory in a tough encounter and the result consolidate the Ladies’ seventh position in the North West Women’s Regional League Division One South.
