Reds Sign Keeper From Stockport County

ShirtAFC Liverpool manager Paul Moore today announced the signing of goalkeeper Ryan Jones from Stockport County.

‘All being well, Ryan should be in the squad for Saturday’s trip to Stockport Sports’, said Moore. ‘I’d like to welcome him to the club and he’ll be a good addition to AFC Liverpool. He’s 6ft4″, has a good presence about him in the area and he’s an up and coming young goalkeeper who’s had experience with clubs higher than our own.’

Liverpool born Jones has had stints at Leeds United, Rochdale, Northwich Victoria and spent two years in the United States with USL Pro club Richmond Kickers before signing for Stockport County on a non contract basis in August 2013. He made two appearances for the Conference North side, saving a penalty on his debut in a 4-2 win against Telford United.

Moore also announced the he’d also signed up former Reds player Lanre Giwa as well as Alex Midgley-Newton. Both midfielders, Giwa made seventeen appearances for the club in the 2009/10 season, scoring two goals, and has himself been over in the USA while Midgley-Newton comes in from Marbella having formerly been at Cammell Laird.

Moore also welcomed defender Darren Torpey back into the fold following his recovery from a kidney injury he suffered against Alsager Town in November.

‘It’s good to have Darren back’, said Moore. ‘He’s a reliable defender, a popular player in the squad and he’ll be using the next couple of weeks to get his fitness levels back up before pushing for a first team place again.’
