Away ShirtIn the South Liverpool & District JFL, the Under 11’s lost 0-2 to Marshalls Barkhill while the Saturday Under 15’s game against Whiston Juniors was postponed due to the weather.

In the Craven Minor JFL, the Under 16’s extended their lead at the top of the table with an 8-2 win against Burscough.

In the Liverpool County Premier League, the Sunday Under 21’s battled out a 0-0 draw against Obiter. Reds fan Archstanton provides the match report.

You may think in the Biblical weather this morning that this was a dour nil nil played in awful conditions of wind, rain, hail and sunshine but it was an heroic performance by the nine men of AFC Liverpool. It wasn’t just a defensive rearguard as AFC kept the ball and tried to play when they could, creating chances themselves but also having the help of Lady Luck on a few occasions. This was especially so after fifty minutes when an Obiter shot came off the bar to an unmarked man six yards out but somehow his side-foot half volley went wide. Obiter also hit the post and throughout the game bodies were thrown in front of shots and any that did get through were saved by Declan Morgan, who was superb in goal.

For the last fifteen minutes AFC went down to eight men after losing a player due to a combination of tiredness and the freezing conditions. Ironically it was in this spell that AFC could have snatched a momentous victory as a near post shot was well saved by Obiter’s keeper and then a header was cleared off the line from the resulting corner.

In the end it was a well deserved point for the battling heroes and a fine game of football played in very difficult conditions. Well done lads.
