AFC Liverpool 1-0 Squires Gate

SAMSUNGJack Sinnott’s early goal, which finished off a sublime fifteen pass move, was enough to give AFC Liverpool all three points against Squires Gate.

Running on empty by the end, it was a testament to the team that they managed to pull out another performance, with it being their fifteenth game in the past five weeks. Though they weren’t at their most vibrant, they Reds still had more quality than their opponents and they created enough chances to win by a more comfortable margin.

The first half was all about the home side, as they had the majority of the possession and with the visitors not really pressing them too much, the Reds were happy to keep hold of the ball and conserve their energy. However, afforded time and space, when they found a burst of energy, they cut through the opposition which was exemplified by the move that brought the game’s only goal and almost brought them an even better second a few minutes later as Liam Loughlin’s effort came crashing back off the bar.

David Rogerson also had to pull off two fine saves to twice deny John Lawless adding his name to the scoresheet while from a half cleared corner, Loughlin’s miss hit shot from the edge of the box was almost turned in by Sinnott.

Squires Gate upped their tempo in the second half and forced the Reds to work harder but they still failed to create any real opportunities to find an equaliser and as the game became more stretched the longer it went on, it was the home side who looked the more likely to score.

Rob Lamont easily rolled Andrew Collins in the centre circle a before making a charge for the Gate area but shot beyond the far post while from an even better chance supplied by Steve Jones, he failed to hit the target.

Loughlin made a great burst down the left flank and cut inside before his energy deserted him, with the result that his shot was a simple take for Rogerson while late on Gate’s keeper had to be more alert to prevent Jones from making the game safe for AFC Liverpool.
